vga connection

i have a 360 with a vga cable which i wish to plug into my pc monitor. The pc monitor does not have a port for vga but a lead coming out of it with vga on the end which plugs into the pc.
So how to i connect to vga cales together. I gather i need some kind of box which will accept both wires but what is it called?

I think what you mean is a switch box - you used to be able to get ones which just did vga but the only ones I can see now (on Maplins & CPC) are kvm, which also switch keyboard & mouse at the same time. As long as you get a switched one & not an auto one you can just use the monitor connections.

However, just a couple of points - what's the connector on the 360? - I take it the cable isn't permanently attached? Also, if it is permanently attached you may be able to get away with a simple connector/changer such as this: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=97373&criteria=vga%20connector&doy=17m8
    from Maplins
  • the cable into the 360 is some differnt type of connection but the other end is a blue vga, but the monitor will not accept there is no vga connection on it. it has a wire vga coming out of it which is exactly like the 360 one, so i cant simply plug the 360 into the monitor

also your link doesnt seem to work

Hmm, the link works fine when I ty it, anyway if you go to Maplins homepage (https://www.maplin.co.uk) & put '15pin HD Monitor Gender Changers' in the search box you should find it.

Interesting this, from what I've read, Xbox 360s use an HDMI connector - an advanced version of the HDI ones found on PCs & if you were to buy an HDMI to VGA convertor they are over £100! If you have a monitor with a DVI connector (the cream coloured oblong with square pins one) then you can get convertors more easily. Please post back whether or not the Maplin solution works.

if both cables have pins then you need Female -Female

if both cables have holes then you need Male - Male
