Eon advice - my meter has broken! - FAO Brian EON Rep -Any help would be great thanks
Hi all,
I have just found out that my meter has stopped working. I found this out when I received an estimated bill just come through and as I dont like paying estimates, I went to check the reading and it was exactly as it was last time. Oh dear. I have reported it and a new meter is going to be installed. My problem is however I have only been at my flat for a year, moved in April 2009 and so this would of been my first winter quarter bill. They are saying they will send me a bill through and from what the guy said they would usually base it on my last winter quarter. Only I dont have one & I said to them its unfair to judge it on for example the prior tenants as the usage would be totally different.
FYI - I have only actually turned the hot water on before xmas, as up until then was just having showers. I also have barely used the storage heating due to knowing how costly it is. I live in a flat in a small block and it doesnt get too cold, if it does I just wrap up.
My query is...What do I do to stop them trying to bill me some ridiculous estimate based on what they 'think' I have used? Is there any way I can argue it etc?
My reason for worrying is my income is reduced at the moment due to health problems and im off work having treatment hopefully will go back soon, but I really dont need any nasty surprises.
Any advice would be a big help. I am trying to keep my finances in the best order possible at the moment & this is a worry on my mind.
Many Thanks

With any luck, it has been broken for over a year...

Thanks for the advice, will try that. Im just panicking I think as at the moment its the last thing I need coming through the door. I know it will be hard to argue as I doubt they will believe I havent used the heating etc, but its the truth. I knew how costly it would be so have not used the storage heating more than a couple of times and only when super cold. I fortunately have lots of chunky cardys!
Thanks again.Life is dealing out these lemons..& Im struggling to make them lemonade.0 -
Hopefully Brian the Eon Rep will pick this up or you could try emailing him. He sorted my problem out today in a couple of hours.

I have just sent an email to the address given, thanks again really hope he may be able to help me as Im fretting an awful lot over it wondering what on earth im going to be charged. Every penny at the moment is accounted for so really is the last thing I need to be charged more than Ive used.

Hi Bobby1982,
I've received your email and sent you a reply today. Apologies for the delay.
In this case the meter has been faulty since you took responsibility for the bills therefore the bill calculation for energy used is going to be based on the new/replacement meters consumption.
A specialist team will calculate the bill and discuss payment arrangements with you according to the details of your particular case.
