Get a refund on your travel insurance

To cut a long story short, after three cancelled trips abroad (I desperately tried to get away a holiday during the last month). I lost money on various things such as accommodation etc.
I had Virgin money insurance (silver with the catastrophe cover) but I was surprised to learn  that it didnt cover volcanoes (just other natural catastrophies)
After going backward and forwards with them, it was simply a brick wall and they basically said try claim it back any money lost through the credit card.
As I was not able to get away, and they dont cover me anyway, I asked for a refund, to my surprise they were fine with. Apparently thousands of people have phoned to get a refund. (my policy still had 3 days left to run, so not sure if that makes a difference)
It still doesn't make up for their failure to cover my costs (but I am hoping for more luck with the credit card) and at least £50 is better than nothing.
So for those whose insurances policies dont cover you, and you couldn't get away, get a refund for the insurance policy purchased. (unless you really want to fight them)

If they mean you should ask your credit card to reimburse you under s75, then they were just saying something to "get rid of you".
S75 is for breaches of contract (eg. an airline goes bust), not a replacement travel insurance policy to cover delays etc.0 -
Luckily the lost expenses dont total much more than £100 (cancellation deposits etc). I was actually quite appalled by virgin money tbh, I went with them originality as I thought paying the bit extra with a reputable company would be easier to claim if there were any problems.
I realise I could of kept fighting them, but after several calls (including being hung up on) I felt it was better of getting a refund for the policy, then keep on fighting in the hope of getting an extra £50.0
