But the Electrical Regulations say that any electrical circuit worked on should still be electrically tested and a minor works certificate issued. Something which a DIY-er cant do.

At this rate we will need to get an electrician or Council approval to change a light bulb.

How far are we going to let the little jobsworths get away with this ?

They are simply protecting their little feifdoms and increasing revenue to the council ( another form of taxation as there is no negotiation about the charges and they are enforced by law. )

They have the support and collusion of spineless politicians who have to err so far on the side of safety ( to protect their own jobs ), that all enterprise and freedom of activity is soon to be removed.

Going along with it is not going to sort this out.

I have always carried out my own electrical installations in the home and had no problems.

When you look at the situation today with half trained 19 year olds able to call themselves electricians after a few month ' training' then I am probably a lot safer carrying out the work myself. At least I know myown limitations.

We should be like the rest of Europe and ignore stupid laws and point out when the Emperor has no clothes..
