Tap with a 'hole' in it
wheezy
2 years ago we were replacing our bathroom. Bought a new bath, bathtap etc. Installed tap as instructed and noticed there was a hole in the fitting. Rang the manufacturer and they told us to install it as was designed like that. Once installed, tiled/finished etc the hole leaked! Rang the supplier and manufacturer and said they could only replace the part and not the tiles etc. This was a huge problem as we would have to remove tiles so we could slightly move bath to replace tap fitting. Spoke to someone who said claim for new tiles etc so we wrote and did that but no-one has ever answered our letter/phone calls. 2 years later I've still got a plastic bag over the tap cos it leaks. Tap is guaranteed for 20 years. Is it too late to do anything now? Many thanks

Every tap has a hole in it."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

:rotfl:Fair point! This one had an extra hole in it at the point the spout sits on. So when using the overhead shower the water just ran into the hole and onto the floor.0 -
It's been leaking for TWO YEARS and you've only just started dripping about it??Beware of imitations e.g. Robert Sterling0

There is some epoxy resin bubble gum type sealer you can get which is malleable and hardens to a solid seal.
I cant remember the name but B@Q and such forth sell it. Not the answer your looking for but after two years its better than a plastic bag."The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

As you've left it TWO YEARS (!!), it's perhaps a little late to start pursuing new tiles, although perhaps worth a try if you sent the original letter recorded and can thus prove they received it.
Still claim a new tap though.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Yes its been two years but we did try to sort it out but no-one would every talk to us. We simply didn't know where to go. I guess its a case of if you ignore them they will go away.0

Couple of things:-
Surely you checked the tap before tiling for leaks?
Have you checked the same tap elswhere to see if they have the hole?
Is it correctly fitted?
Have you had a plumber look at it?
Taps are normally cast and I don't see a how it would have a hole unless it was meant to be there.
Should have taken it up with whoever supplied the tap at the time.0 -
Well we contacted the manufacturer before fitting who assured us that it was fine. When we rang them to tell them it leaked they told us they'd since had a meeting and agreed that there was a design fault and re-designed the tap. The hole is in the fitting that the swivel spout sits on (no idea what its called, sorry). The tap was checked for leaks but we didn't pour water over the top of it to see that it was fine with an overhead shower. We did contact the place where we bought the tap and wrote to them (recorded delivery) and rang them. Never got back to us. I think we'll be trying that epoxy resin type stuff for the short term - its gotta look better than a plastic bag. Then look at re-doing the lot again. Thanks0

Have you got a picture of the tap, could there possibly be a washer missing or some other part missing?
Very hard to offer any help with the descriptions you have given.0
