Can anyone help. My wife and i are arriving in London on Friday 14th afternoon 2pm ish. We are arriving on a off peak return ticket with Virgin Trains from northampton area ( ticket allows off peak return within a month ticket however we return on Sunday). This does not include underground etc and we intend to get to our Hotel - which is right next to St Paul Catherdral by either tube or taxi however does anyone have an idea on taxi cost from Euston to St Pauls?

Also is the travelcard £7.50 all day? I will be buying two travelcards for Saturday but want an easy and cheaper way to get to our hotel so either taxi or is there a single adult tube ticket to St Pauls?

We are going to the theate Friday night so hope to just jump in a taxi outside St Pauls to the Lyric theatre, any idea on that price too??

Sorry just can't make heads or tails of all the rail/travelcard options....

A travelcard is £7.50 all day but that's for all zones. Zones 1-2 is all you need and is £5.60. A single tube fare is £4.00 so two rides in a day (or one and a bus ride) and you are saving.

An Oyster isn't worth the bother on a short trip like yours unless you plan to revisit.

Cheers for the advice, any ideas on taxi costs from Euston to St Paul's Cathedral? Just that with two adults then for travel card its going to be £8 single as after getting to the hotel i won't be using public transport again that day so pointless buying a full travel card.

If you google 'london taxi fares' you'll see some websites which will give you estimated costs.

This site indicates a cab should be around £10. Seems very expensive for quite a short trip, but you might like the idea of not having to haul luggage up/down stairs. TfL reckons it's 15 mins on the tube taking into account 1 change.

That's what i was thinking to be honest....without Oyster card its going to be £4 each so another £2 means i walk out hail a cab and drop me at the hotel.......think i'm leaning towards a taxi if its only £10
