scottish power debt collection

Hi
This is for anyone that has got problems with Scottish Power trying to claim incorrect unpaid bills.
Scottish Power have sent me many debt collection letters over the previous 18 months, and other subsidery companies have threatened to take court action for non payment for 2 properties that i no longer owned.
The debts were for after the properties were sold.
They also put a default against me in January 2010 with Experian which only came to light when a mortgage application was refused because of it, this to me was the last straw.
I have decided to take court action against them for harassment.
I would appreciate any views or help with this matter as i believe that there are many people that must have similar experiences with SP.

    Hi HUNBUN

Sorry to hear about your situation. Couple of questions to see how this situation came about:

    1. When you sold both properties did you contact ScottishPower to confirm that you were no longer responsible for the gas/electricity supplies and did you provide a final meter reading so that your accounts could be closed down and the final statements issued to your home address?
    2. Have you contacted ScottishPower following the reminder letters that have been issued and provided legal documentation which confirms that you are no longer responsible for the property in question?

A default marker is only added to your account after a longer period of trying to obtain payment for the outstanding balance.

Let me know if you want me to investigate the activity or if you have any further questions.

    Kind Regards

    Colin @ ScottishPower

  • Hi
    Yes

Gave SP final reading before moving out and paid with card over the phone.Made approx 18 phone calls to SP to sort out their problem.
Would just like to know how many other people have been in the same situation.
default removed now, but the way they dealt with the situation is totally out of order.
It is in the hands of SP legal Dept of what they want to do now.
