Crisis loan for mobility scooter?

Can you apply for a crisis loan loan or something similar for repairs to a mobility scooter?
It is going to cost me at least £380 and I just haven't got that kind of money to spare.

It might be worth putting this post on the Disability and Dosh board as well.

It may seem like a long shot, but try placing a 'wanted' request on Freecycle.
On my local freecycle, I often see them requested, and followed by a received notification, so there are generous people out there, that have these, and for whatever reason, are no longer required.
It's worth a try, and it would be a financially better option.

Have you not got anything you can sell? If you need money in a hurry you could put some items on ebay, or sell them to CEX?Gone ... or have I?0

aren't repairs on mobility vehicles paid for?0

If anyone knows if this is possible or maybe another way could they let me know.
Could do with a quick reply as I need my scooter to get around.0 -

That's motability. I'm guessing the OP, like my Dad, has bought their mobility scooter privately and therefore is responsible for any repairs etc.
UN17ED, are you claiming any means tested benefits that would entitle you to claim for a budgeting loan? I recently had to apply for one (my kitchen sink collapsed and needed completely replaced
) and I was awarded the single person's allowance of £348 (I think that's the amount).
The whole thing took a few weeks but it was straightforward enough to arrange.
Have you tried your local Credit Unions? I'm not really clued up on them, but it might be worth checking how quick, after you register an account, they would allow you a loan. My CU require 2 months DD/Direct wage deduction payments before you can apply, which obviously wouldn't suit you, but it might be worth asking around to see what they offer?
Sorry I can't be of any real use, but I couldn't just read and not post.
Good luck, hope you get things sorted out soon.

I know exactly about your problem. I applied to the Social Fund for assistance with keeping my mobility scooter on the road and was quite firmly refused.
Can I suggest that you look at either The Act Foundation or Elizabeth Finn Care. You can Google them both to find their website details]
The Action Foundation is a charitable fund that particularly assists people with mobility problems.
Elizabeth Finn Care is another charity trust that help people with one off grants and also regular assistance.
They both have eligibility rules but they are well worth looking into as in the past they have BOTH helped me. Firstly to purchase a mobility scooter and also later with repairs.
If you are getting DLA with the highest rate of the Mobility component you are then entitled to use the Motability Scheme which does cover scooters. If you use the 3 year lease contract all of your repairs are covered.
Best of luck!0 -
How about approaching the disability charity ABLE?
They are fantastic!0
