On the 15th of may sainsburys are giving away a free milk jug instore for customers who want to switch from bottled milk to bagged milk.
It also is 6p cheaper for a 2pint bag then a bottle.

What a terrible idea :/ I'll stick with standard bottles.

If the bags turn out to be popular and "Better For the Environment" you may not end up with a choice!

But personally I agree, I would rather have the standard 2L bottle!

Think this is a great idea (if you use this much milk!) but if you have to be buying the milk is it a freebie or a low spend? (buy bottle of milk)., wonder if I could just walk in and ask for my jug without buying anything else?

i saw loads of the bags o milk in the reduced section at my sainsburys yesterday.
when sainsburys introduced these, i gathered from the thread on here that the bags split quite easily and that it was quite tricky to get them into the container without spilling the milk or splitting the bags!
i personally think this makes the standard bottles more eco friendly as they can be recycled and are far less messy which means a lot less chemicals from cleaning products are going into the water system! :)

I can't see that it says you have to buy the milk, so you should be able to get just the jug:D

I should imagine the day will come when those plastic containers are banned because they are such a drain on resources to make in the first place, then to recycle those which don't end up in landfill. IMO this is an excellent initiative by Sainsbug's. It'll just take a bit of getting used to, that's all.

Anybody who really can't get used to the jug could use the jug as a vase or flog it at a car booty.

True but their argument is that only 1 in 4 bottles are currently recycled. 3 out of the 4 go to landfill.
