I have just bought a Dell Inspiron and find it to be very good, it was from currys but pc world sell it too. £399 on offer with 3GB ram and 500GB hard drive.

  • Check out the Dell outlet.. you should be able to get a nice spec machine for that money

If you can push your budget slightly to about £479.99 then I would give this Acer laptop some consideration:

    ACER Aspire 5740-333G25Mn

It seems like a good choice because it comes with the newer Intel Core i3-330M (2.13 GHz) processor and generally Acer have good quality build laptops and everything is usually laid out in the right places so they are nice to work and live with on a day to day basis.

From personal experience, stay clear of PC world. Anything you find there can be bought cheaper and better elsewhere. And curry's is part of the same group I think?

Have a look online Scan, Dabs, Dell etc. Dell outlet, or the argos returns outlet on ebay are good bets. There's a thread in the sticky threads at the top of this forum which may be of use also.

I believe it is PC World, Currys and Dixons that are from the same parent group DSGi. However, I wouldn't knock PC World on their prices just off the bat like that, I would look out for special incentive deals they have going and if you see a laptop you like, you simply compare prices on the model online before buying and you will know where the cheapest price is - and sometimes that might be at PC World.
