Npower problem-may now be Eon problem

About 2 years ago I complained that I had not seen an electricity bill for a while, it turned out that I had not been billed for 18 months. Should not be problem as I had a direct debit set up
Turns out that when I changed from Powergen -now Eon in 2005 there had been a dispute between Npower and Powergen. I contacted them every week and each week spoke to a different person and had to relate the same information-must of spoke to at least 20 people
My meter was showing as over 20 miles away so after 6 visits to check the meter they seemed to sort the problem and I did online billing
Had a bill in October 09 and Jan 10 but then in March 10 had a letter saying they wanted to check the meter
When I rang and asked how many times they wanted to see it got the same thing, meter not mine was it for gas!!!!!!
I put a complaint in and customer services rang and said they would sort-I did this time get a young man who basically called me a liar and I was not very polite but did not resort to swearing but very, very angry
April had a letter from Npower saying that they were sorry I was leaving them-I contacted the number and eventually got an email address
Was now with Eon but that was all they would do -but on the upside would be refunding all that I had paid them since 2005
Meter reading starts in Aug 05 and ends in Aug 10 but is the same number

Eon have been great so far-could not find the address from the meter was it a new plot-the house was built in 1945.
Problem is How do they know what electricity I have used and can they go back to 2005
I have to pay them £1000 by credit card tomorrow as I let them know that I have been refunded £2000

Any help please would be gratefully received

Thank you

They will know how much you owe by the meter readings.

Those meter readings are vital because without them no one can tell you what you owe ... so you'll need to advise these to us.

There may be possibilities with things like the back billing rule to limit how much they can charge you, but your explanation is missing so much detail.

When you pay by monthly DD, what you paid is taken into account before deciding what extra can and can't be charged for. Also, for example, if the readings were estimated, then a catch up actual reading is allowed.
You also say you had £2k refunded. Why was that? If it was an error, you probably can't keep it.
On what grounds are they seeking payment of £1k tomorrow? i.e. what is the detail of the calculation?

Unless we have all the details, no one will be able to help you, sorry.

Npower have paid back all the money that I have paid to them from 2005, initially via bills and then later since 2008 direct debits that could not be put against a bill. But the meter reading on the bill in 2005 is the same as the reading at the end of the bill. So 8700 in 2005 and 8700 in 2010
I gave Eon a reading on 20.4.10 of 29886 but the last reading Npower were given on 5.10.09 was 27002
The last two reading were actual
Eon are asking me to pay £1k as they know I have had the refund from Npower.
I have banked the cheque but would rather pay when I have to

    Thanks
