My mobile's broken!

I got a 24 month contract from Phones4U and a Sony Ericsson Satio some time last year (not more than 12 months ago), it's been a bit intermittent sometimes and yesterday the touch screen went - so now I can't really use it apart from to answer calls as the touch screen just presses randomly when you touch it!!
I've tried a FW update and reboots etc. as recommended on the internets, but it's the same today.

I assume it's covered under a warranty for this kind of thing? Do I take it back to Phones4U or send it to Sony Ericsson? Are Phones4U going to say I didn't buy it as it was 'free' or something stupid so it's not covered (I didn't take our their insurance policy as I'm covered for accidental damage by my bank account).

Phones4U will send it to Sony who will send it back to them to send to you. . .

I always think it's faster to send it to the manufacture in the first place, you'll get it back faster. I'm sure that Sony give a 2 year guarantee.

I emailed SE and they've replied with a form to fill in and send off. Freepost but £10 return cost if it's not covered under warranty and I say no to a repair. Hopefully it'll be covered though!
7-10 day turnaround - lucky I kept my old phone rather than selling it!

OK I now have a new problem. I posted it a week ago but they can't find a record of the IMEI number and I'm waiting for a reply about a search for my name and post code.
What happens if it's been nicked in the post? They told me to send it to their freepost address and get a receipt for postage (which I did), but without it being recorded delivery I won't be covered by the PO for the cost of the phone.

Do you have a copy of the freepost address where you could call the delivery office to see if it's hanging around the office?

Can't see it being there, but always worth a try. I think I would be reluctant to post anything of value unless it's being sent special delivery tbh. Always worth the extra just for peace of mind.

Well I would have sent it special as it's only a couple of quid, but they told me in an email to send it to the freepost address! So I guess they don't like signing for things! :D
