Bank Error - In My Favour

This afternoon i took a load of cheques to the nationwide to pay into my flexaccount.
It wasnt until i got home and looked at the reciept that it said i had deposited £475.05. Knowing that wasnt right i checked ebay to see how much they had actually been for and it was exactly £201 less than what they had credited to my account
Just wondering what happens now? Will they realise their mistake? Will they request it back? Will they take it without telling me first?
Obviously with them being cheques they wont clear until next week anyway so i cant go out and spend the money as much as id like to :rotfl: Though i was just wondering how it worked and what they would do

Spend it quick then change your name! :rotfl:Total abstinence is so excellent a thing that it cannot be carried to too great an extent. In my passion for it I even carry it so far as to totally abstain from total abstinence itself. Oscar Wilde0

Almost certainly.essexhoney wrote:Will they request it back? Will they take it without telling me first?
If it was a company that had sent too much money into your account they'd probably have to ask for it back, but as it's your own bank, they may well just take it without asking or telling you.
Whatever you do don't spend it as if they take it back and you go overdrawn, they could penalise you..0 -
Tee hee
Off topic i'm sorry but I'm in Cardiff too Dan! :hello:Total abstinence is so excellent a thing that it cannot be carried to too great an extent. In my passion for it I even carry it so far as to totally abstain from total abstinence itself. Oscar Wilde0 -
There is much on this forum about claiming what is rightfully yours. The money in question in this thread is not rightfully that of the OP. The moral thing for the OP and any other person in a similar situation is to inform the bank immediately. Te fact that banks may be greedy amoral or whatever does not alter that moral duty. In fact I wonder if keeping it with intent would not be an act of theft. TBH if someone got away with it and a bank relaised severaal months after and debited the account into unauthorised overdraft, so giving rise to charges, I would have no sympathy whatsoever.0

Anyways, have just checked my bank account this morning and they have rectified their mistake so it seems i dont need to worry at all as they have obviously realised their mistake and corrected itThe Only Thing Men Can Do Right Is Get Everything Wrong
