Ebay & Direct Debits

I recieved an invoice for my sellers fee from ebay last month and I forgot all about it. I usually pay through payPal although I was away on holiday and completely forgot. Although ebay tried to take the payment by direct debit. I dont have a direct debit set up for ebay so they have charged me an adminstration charge of £5. I have been writing emails for over a month now thrying to get them to refund the charge but they keep saying that the direct was set up correctly. I have contacted my bank and they have confirmed that no direct debits have ever been set up on this account and even ebay have said the reason that it was returned was "no instruction". Has anyone else had this problem. I should have just paid by paypal when i first got the invoice but it annoys me when they charge a administration fee for something thats not my fault. the money was in the account so had they set it up correctly then it wouldnt have been returned.

Sounds to me like it could be a charge for a late payment.0

I can't really see how you can argue the charge. You got the bill and then didn't pay it I think £5 is pretty cheap.
Why not get a DD sorted out and then it can't happen again in the future?0 -
Why the hell should ebay get away with trying to take a direct debit that has never been arranged?
It's incompetence of the highest order. They don't get their money but the DO incur their customer a fee. WTH?!
Nice way to make money if you're ebay. Pretend you thought there was a direct debit, pocket a fiver per customer. Sweet. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Vans_101, I can see your issue. If they told me that they were charging me £5 for a returned direct debit and I did not have one set up I would chase them for the money. If they told me they were charging me £5 for late payment then I would just pay. They can't charge you for something that was never set up.
Do ebay charge for late payment? I thought that they limited your account.
Have you managed to get any where with them yet?0 -

Thats the issue. Had they set the direct debit up correctly then there wouldnt have been a late payment. I got in touch with my bank and they have no record of me having an ebay direct debit. I paid the fees the same day they sent me an email to say it had been rejected minus the £5 charge as I dont think I should pay it. But then they took it this month from my credit card without my permission. They may have my details but they did not have my persmision to take the payment. And just to point out the site is calle moneysaingexpert so £5 would be better in my pocket rather than ebays.0
