Not sure if anyone can help or if im in the right forum!!
But my husband has a loan with lloyds, and we have an OD with them the total is around 11k. I have been ill and not working since having our child last year and we fell behind on payments for the first time in YEARS! this also combined with the recession and my DH is in the motor industry...
So i went to the CAB who set up some payments after doing a income expediture..
Lloyds have accepted the nominal payments but I was wondering in all fairness based on the payment schedule its going to take YEARS i mean YEARS to pay this back.
We were thinking of asking some family and trying to make a F&F payment offer to lloyds but i dont know where to start I mean we can't afford the 11k but would like to maybe pay something and start anew
I realize some posters are going to judge me based on the "I borrowed the money i ineed to pay it back" And i understand.. but we couldn't afford the loan when they lent it to us.. But i needed some medical treatment and had to go private as the NHS wouldn't pay for it all the way *i am not a UK citizen* we were desperate.. we also had the CSA come after us for some back pay they apparently found after the case was closed they told us we HAD to get a loan. and if i was of better wits at the time I would have told CSA to go away as they arent a regulated by the FSA and can't TELL you get a loan!
We called lloyds and told them why we needed the money they worled out we COULD'NT afford the loan but gave it to us at 21% interest...
and here we are today!
So any advice about how to make FF payment offers or what a reasonable offer is etc would be appreciated.

To have F&F's, you normally need to default quite seriously and have the debt transferred to a DCA. This will possibly cause even more damage to your credit ratingHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. ok thanks! lloyds has issued a default notice on the loan..0

Have you looked at the national debtline factsheet of F&Fs? That is worth a read. If you have already been issued with a default and are only paying nominal payments they may accept a reduced offer (but if the debt is still owed by lloyds then not a great offer I would think).
How much could you raise to put forward as an offer? If you make sure its clear in your letter that this is not money of yours but that someone is offering to pay it for you only on the condition that it settles the debt in full.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Great thank you for that information Tixy

Just a point of clarification to any non UK citizens out there... you do not have to be a UK citizen to qualify for full NHS treatment - what you DO have to have is to have been working and paid NI contributions
(from another non - UK citizen living in the UK)
As for your debt situation... Yes it may take you YEARS to pay it all back - infact I think most of here are or have been in that situation
There is no definite rule as to how much a creditor will accept as a F&F payment, or if they will negotiate at all... any number of factors will come into play here - the size of debt, the likelyhood of you being able to pay it back in full, their targets, and just if the person handling your account is having a bad day...
How soon will you be able to return to working if you are off ill? How much will
you be able to contribute to the debt repayment? that might considerably decrease the length of your DMP...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Yes I work and pay my taxs and have done for 7 years and yes i do get NHS greatment but there is certain things that go above and beyond what the NHS will pay for. I got breast cancer at a VERY young age and i knew something wasn't right but the NHS states that Breast screening is done at NO EARLIER then 35 So i had to pay to get this done because i knew something was right... Good thing i did!! double masectomy now booked.Just a point of clarification to any non UK citizens out there... you do not have to be a UK citizen to qualify for full NHS treatment - what you DO have to have is to have been working and paid NI contributions

...
Also the reconstruction of that the NHS waiting list is very long. however if i wish to go part private i can get this done faster.
NOW i get full NHS screening for free
But i also had no recourse to public funds therefore whilst i was off for tx and things i didn't get any money we depended on my husbands wage.
I am not due to return to full time work for a while yet.
but thank you for your reply.
"when i said years i ment like 30-- thats what we are currently looking at as a result of the negoiations between CAB and lloyds"0 -
But none of that is due to you being non-UK
that is simply short comings of the NHS - not because you were not born here
Your original post made it look like you had to get the loan because the NHS wouldn't pay because you were not british IYSWIM...
The breast screening can be insisted on if you have a supportive GP but I entirely understand why you went for a private screening. And whilst I totally understand why you would have a reconstruction privately rather than wait then when you are unable to repay your debts then it may be you don't have the realistic choice of going private - you just can't afford to. Can you return to part time work to help with the repayments or are you off due to health reasons rather than by choice?
30 years is a long time yes - but this will surely reduce as work picks up for your partner and you return to FT work?DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Yes, its just as a late 20s female im sure you can appreciate that having NO breasts is not only very detrimental on your mental health but its also very difficult to operate day to day with the constant thought.. I work in a male dominated industry and even with bra implants etc it wouldn't be practical *im a chef so sweaty hot kitchen and stick on boobs lol don't work!)
I have been given the money to go privately this isn't up for negotiation as my mother insisted i pay for this so i can return to work and actually be able to function like a woman. Like I said NHS will fund some.. just not all
But my family is also going to give me a bit extra to offer to crieditors.
I am currently undergoing treatments etc so not off by choice
I am doing what I can like mysteryshopping i do at home customer service etc...
Im hoping this will all be sorted once i go back to work. but i guess it doesn't hurt to try what ND suggest and offer a bit of a lump sum payment as a FF? The worse they can say is no..
Sorry i re-read original post i ment to say that i didn't get public funds due to non UK therefore ive not had a income.. and stating i wasn't uk was more for point but i see what you mean!
Thank you ALL for your wonderful and non judgemental advice its really appreciated
