The car is a Ford Galaxy 1.9Ghia diesel 115 psi and has done 91 thousand miles. He was in the Army when he purchased the car and left last year. I dont know whether he is trying it on and was thinking about paying half of the finance BUT if I paid half and he didnt pay the rest then I would be no better off.
How do I get a HPI check? Can you do it online?

You should be able to use the chassis number. This will be in your handbook, or somewhere on the car - check along the front edge of the windscreen, a plate under the bonnet, or arround the doors or door pillars.

That will give you a definite answer.

Me again, not heard anything from ex for over a month until today that is!!! He is now saying he has come to an agreement with the finance company to pay £100 a month and that he will pay for it this month and could I take over the payments from next month!!!! The galaxy is worth £2300 roughly and the debt he has is [FONT=&quot]£4687.18. There is no way on gods earth I am taking over the payments so my question is How long will it take before it gets repossessed? I want to know this so I can save as much money as I can so I can get myself another vehicle so I can get to and from work. Also the car engine blew up 3 years ago and my mother paid to have it replaced which I have been paying back. Now if the car was to be repossessed then the engine has only done 21 thousand miles and technically isnt the engine that came with the car and certainly doesnt belong to my ex......im just wondering where I would stand IF I stripped the engine out and took off everything else that I have replaced?

Forgot to say that a friend did a HPI check and its not showing anything outstanding. Now could this be because it was bought through the armed forces and because of security its not showing or is it because its not got onto their system yet?

I have also contacted GMAC but they wouldnt tell me anything as I wasnt the policy holder Grrrrrrrr have asked him for all documentation but im not gonna hold my breathe. Ive got a bill of sale which he has signed (even though no money exchanged hands) and the car has been reregistered in my name. I dont know what to do any more. I have been banking money each month and mum said she would give me some more towards another car if and when it came to them collecting it. When the car is repossessed could I possibly buy it back? And if so for how much?

Just looked at log book........number of previous owners NONE!!!

I would just drive it round to his place, chuck him the keys then go and by myself my own car and be done with it if I was you. I wouldn't waste any more time stressing over it.

If its coming back as hpi clear, surely there is no loan secured on it? Is your ex just trying it on ? Ask to see the finance agreement and the letters he has received from them, something doesn't ring true here, if the vehicle has outstanding finance why have they waited more than 2 years after the original agreement ended to chase it ?
