I am ready to get my broadband connected from talktalk this wk. I have two PC’s and would like to know what exactly do I need to buy for shared broadband use and how much it will cost altogether? I can buy it from talktalk website but it seems rather expensive. I assume I need 2 usb adapters which is £30 each and a shared router which is £80.
Total approx - £140.
This is the website –

Is there anyway I can get cheaper than this

If one PC is near where the modem/router will be plugged in then you could use a cable to connect that pc and then you would need only one other adapter.
You can buy it cheaper than that - check out ebuyer.com or misco.co.uk as a starterEver stop to think and forget to start again?0 -
If both PCs could have a cable running from them to the router, you could buy a decent modem/router for under £50, then a just a few quid on a cable for each computer. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

I have recently looked at wireless and wired broadband connections for a friend who is getting broadband also. If you want the cheap option, go for wired, using Ebuyer.com I priced it as being around £35 to £40 in total (and that was connecting 2 pc's to broadband)
1. Two Network Cards - £3 each
2. Router - £25
3. 15m 5eCat cable (network cable) - £4
4. Delivery cost of around £4
Wireless option at it's cheapest was double that, at around £70 to £90 (as you don't want the cheapest as you want to look at how secure your wireless connections are too)
Obviously if one PC is upstairs and the other downstairs wireless might be more expensive but it does mean you don't need to lift all the carpet up to put a cable down. Also if in the future you get a laptop you can use broadband on that if it's wireless enabled.
I have had a quick glance at the hardware TalkTalk is offering and everything other than the wireless router, is certainly expensive. You can get all that hardware cheaper from Ebuyer. I can't comment on the router as £90 is about what they go for, so I'd have to compare it's features with others in order to really establish whether it's value for moeny or not but from the mark up on the other hardware I believe it'll be a cheap £70 model marked as £90. So compare it with other items from Ebuyer for features.
Hope this helps0 -
I've just looked at your router from TalkTalk. It's £10 more expensive than exactly the same one on sale at Ebuyer.
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/79069
So from a rough estimate if you used Ebueyr instead of TalkTalk for your hardware you'd be saving around £40 to £50(not including delivery charges, so that would be about £5 less)
£10 saving from your router
£15 saved on each usb adapters (as ebuyer has them at £15 each compared to TalkTalks £30 each) - so that's £30 saved
Also you can pick up cheaper micro filters from places such as Ebay and Maplin I believe charge less than £10 each for them. Even Ebuyer sell them for £5 I believe
Select "Super Saver" delievery on ebuyer to get 20% off but it does take a week to deliver.
Hoep this helps.0
