Is 45 too old for strapless dress?

Hi there all my new friends.
My partner and I are getting married this Summer and I would love to wear a strapless dress, but in a magazine I read that over 40's should NEVER do strapless, not even if the girl in the shop tells you you look fabulous!
So.....should I ignore the advice or think again?
Your opinions would be so much appreciated.
Thank you x

Not at all, what an odd thing to say in a mag! You should choose whatever suits you and looks right. Take a good honest friend with you and see what suits!
Congrats and happy planningBump due 22nd September0 -
Last year, I re-married at the grand old age of 44 and I wore a strapless dress. A princessy one with sparkles and everything! (Including a St Tropez fake tan!) LOL
You wear whatever you feel like, missus - don't let 'rules' written by a twenty-something fashionista stop you from doing what you want. It's all the Emperor's new clothes anyway!
Have a great day!0 -
It depends on the person: I've seen some 20 somethings who shouldn't wear strapless and some 50 somethings who look greatMarching On Together
I've upped my standards...so up yours!0 -
Hope there are no "rules" as I will be 41 when I wear mine0

If we all did as we were told, the world would be a very boring place!!
And if that were true, I'm bloomin' scuppered, as I'm 46 and my dress is strapless ivory silk...and my eldest son is giving me away
So I would say "Bo77ocks" to that magazine!!0 -
A couple on months ago I was in a dress shop waiting for my friend to try on dresses and saw a woman in her forties try on a beautiful strapless dress but she was unsure if she could wear it, I convinced her that she could as she looked incredible! If you have the figure and the skin for it I'd say go for it! Like BritRael said, there are 20-somethings out there who shouldn't be wearing strapless, age is not the issue here, it's about what looks good on you! Throw that page of the magazine out and wear whatever you want!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0

I will be 39 and 1/2 when I wear my strapless gown! However having the same wobbles as you I am having a jacket made to go over the top and once I've had a drink or two I am sure I will be flashing my bingo wings to the world:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0
