Benefits and illness

I have a reocurring illness, ive received treatment for a pilodonial abcest 8 times now in two and a half years, Ive found out its back and I have to go into hospital again, ill be off work for at least a month.
My doctor and myself believe that my job is contributeing to this, I work in the kitchens of a restaurant, the hot humid climate in the kitchen is agravateing the condition, im just supseptable to this kind of illness.
My doctor has said that she is willing to give me a well note stateing that this type of work is contributeing to the abcest reocurring.
I want to find a new job and have looked, but as of yet found nothing, I have no saveings so if i give up my job I will have to live off benefits until I find another job.
I have worked continuously for 16 years in a variety of jobs, and have not decided I dont want to work anymore I just cant keep going like this.
I have been told that if I give up my job I cant receive any benefits for up to 26 weeks, is this correct?
Please help im getting desperate its just a reocurring cycle.
Please

if your dr has given you a fit note then you can claim esa you will not be sanctioned but you will have to have a medical in the near future.I have a reocurring illness, ive received treatment for a pilodonial abcest 8 times now in two and a half years, Ive found out its back and I have to go into hospital again, ill be off work for at least a month.

I dont think they can sanction you on ESA for leaving work voluntarily if ill with a sick note, BUT I dont think they will pay ESA if you are eligible for SSP.
Are you eligible for SSP whilst off sick?
Be careful if you do walk out of a job, although you could probably claim ESA, you would likely be turned down at medical, if that happened you would have to claim JSA. If your medical happened quite quickly, ie after a few weeks of claiming, you could still be eligible for a possible sanction on JSA. Possibly best to ask CAB or Welfare rights for full facts before deciding....[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)0 -
If you are giving up your job on medical advice you are unlikely to be sanctioned for JSA. This is the appropriate benefit for you to claim as you are able to do other types of work and ESA is the benefit for people who cannot work at all.0

I'm not sick at the moment having just come out of hospital again, but the job will make me ill again0

If you want to leave your employment then you can claim JSA whilst seeking new employment. Alternatively you could seek new employment whilst still in your current employment.Gone ... or have I?0
