Online Bank Account Access for the Whole Family

Hi, I have just opened a joint account with my wife and two single accounts, one for me, one for her! Bank of choice - Santander (I can hear the chorus of boos, but ignored the warning signs and thought I'd give them a go).

Anyway, my dilemma, with online banking I can only access my account and the joint account, but I am needing a way that we could have one log in to access all three accounts without having to log in and out to different accounts, it would be much easier for me and my wife to manage our finances? Santander customer service  have told me this is not possible due to security but if we are both in agreement what is the problem - isn't that the point of being married to have shared access to things? Anyone with a Santander account who could suggest that this is actually possible?

If not, any suggestions of banks which could offer this facility?

No it is not possible for the very reasons Santander have stated. No bank, that I know of, will offer what you want.
Joint accounts are for shared access.
    Sole accounts are for individuals.
isn't that the point of being married to have shared access to things?

Then make all three accounts joint.

Use First Direct Internet Banking Plus or similar - I can consecutively access my Halifax accounts as well as the wife's & kids relatively painlessly.

A bank isn't going to let you see another person's single account, whether you are related or not. Way to do it is, as mentioned above, an account compiler such as Egg Money Manager or First Direct's equivalent

I use First Direct Internet Banking Plus (It's FREE and I don't have any FD Accounts) which allows me to see accounts.

You could easily add your own logins and those of your wife and then have immediate access to all 3 accounts with the balances all shown on the main page.

If you want both of you to have access to both single accounts, then why not make them into joint accounts?

That way, they'll all show up on your individual online logins, and it'll also be legitimate and above board as well!

No bank will allow you to access your wife's account. Your wife could sue the bank if they did.

I ask the same question as rb10. Why open sole accounts if you both want access to them ?

If it's a question of having separate pots in a joint account then why not take a look at something like an Intelligent Finance Plan which can be split into numerous pots (they call them "jars") for your various joint purposes. Their isaver account currently pays 2.49% AER.

Be a bit careful with account management systems because they are not normally regulated by the FSA and may also breach your bank's security Terms & Conditions.
