Never come across this one before, is it a simple fix?
1998 S reg face lift. Took it in swap. Don't really retail the older stuff but its fab condition.

automatic gearbox? traction control?
Autobox might benefit from a few good oil flushes, change filters if possible. Might cost more than its worth though.
Traction control, sensor faulty, try some 2nd hand ones.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Auto box - you have to change gear manually with it, so i know the box is ok.0

sounds like its in limp mode, when drive is selected does it pull away in 2nd/3rd gear?

as above check the fuse, used to be a common problem on the astra f model, the fag lighter used to short out from being used for phone chargers etc and blow fuse.the auto box would go in to limp mode and could only really be driven in manual0 -
The S light doesnt flash. It comes on when you start it up and goes out as you'd expect.
The "i" light stays on and so does the EML.
The fag lighter works and the reverse lights come on too. Which takes me away from the fuse as I've been there a few years ago with one.0 -
If eml is on try this to get the code off.

then do a google search for the code0 -
You not got some kind of fault code reader at your garage?
Pedal test will do the job though.0 -

it is basically a problem with the autobox gear change the ecu cannot determine correct time to change.
could be either a ecu or sensor fault very hard to say without doing the tests associated with the p1813 fault code.0
