My mate, not a boyfriend, is homeless, I would like to help him out and offer him a sofa but I am on Incapacity Benefit and Housing and Council Tax Benefit. Will him staying affect my benefits? , as obviously they may assume we are sleeping together.

Why on earth would someone make such an assumption? They may have a suspicion but to establish two people as LTAHAW is a long process, it is not something that they can just decide upon for the sake of it.

The only benefit this would potentially affect would be housing benefit and council tax benefit; he would be classified as a non dependent and you may find non dependent deductions are made from these two benefit. You don't need to provide the forum with his income details in this case. Just look it up here. Note that although this is Tameside, the same non dependent deduction will apply for whatever circumstances apply to your friend regardless of which council region you will be residing in.

If however you begin to receive an income from renting to him then you would need to declare that also.
