DVLA lost my documents

Options
I personally took my documents to my local DVLC so they would not be lost in the post. I didn't hear anything for a couple of weeks so returned to my local office only to be told the documents had been lost in their internal post !!!!... They want me to go all thro the process again but as they only accept original documents where am I going to get an original Customs document and USA Registration document.?
My insurance company want the new reg number or they are going to cancel the policy. DVLA checked off all the documents (before they lost them) so why do I have to resubmit .
Plus not only have I paid for my insurance but had to buy the road tax and the registration fee at the same time.
Help

Do you really expect different from DVLA?

    They often lose information!

I would make a complaint personally, and hope that since the time you posted this, you have managed to sort it out

Get it sorted as soon as possible or they'll have a fine winging its way to you.... Im sure they'll make something up.

Make sure you write to them, as telephoning them often you are given different answers each time you call
