    It's going to be difficult proving how much extra it cost you, as due to the cold winter, EVERYONE had higher heating bills and energy usage, so you'd have to prove that yours were excessively high.
    Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')

    No. OP will need to prove that their electricity bill was disproportionately higher than what their gas bill would have been.

    The original question was can this be taken further.

    The electricity company won't do anything as you have used the electricity they are charging you for.

    If I were you I would approach the landlord. The rental agreement was for a flat with Gas Central heating and gas central heating should have been supplied. During the time it wasn't the landlord didn't keep up their side of the agreement so a reduction in rent for that time would seem to be in order. A reduction based on the fact you weren't getting what you paid for wouldn't necessarily be tied to the higher costs but that would be a good place to start.

    It would be useful to know the time you were without heating and the cost of the bills. From what you have posted the landlord appears to have acted quite decently in providing you with alternative heating & fixing the problem. If my assumption is correct them you have to ask yourself if it is worth harming a relationship with a good landlord for a small rent reduction.
