Help/Opinions on dd's bedroom..

Ok so dd is going away on sunday and i have the following planned.

Her room is currently magnolia from when we moved in almost 3 years ago and is now looking a little tatty so she is getting a makeover for when she returns.

So all walls painted white
Feature wall behind her bed will be plum
She is having a white wall decal on top of this plum when done
She has a new white bed coming this week
I am re painting her our beroom furniture which is the scandinavia drawers from Argos which will be white too.
Her floor is oak laminate

Question is i have 2 dilemmas..her rug i bought today is cream as white is impractical and cant find a nice plum one that isnt a fortune and she may get bored of the colour scheme..will it look odd?

Windows..she currently has roller blinds but we have 75cm width which means the blinds are too wide and have to be cut down but i didnt do a great job on the last ones so am stuck on what to put up..was thinking white roman blinds would be nice but they will let lots of light in unless blackout..B&Q sell them but too small..anyone know where i can get a bigger width as will have them over the windows as opposed to inside as easier than cutting..so blinds help with colour and style..is white just too much white?!!

I'm pretty good wioth this sort of stuff or so friends say but am not sure what to do as just cant picture the room done.

Thanks for any ideas x

Try Dunelm Mill for blinds as they are quite reasonable and have a large selection.

As for the rug I'm pretty sure cream would look ok but if you're doubtful and it's a washable rug what about dying it?

The colour's sound nice and I'm sure the room will look nice. I would be inclined to go with plum coloured blinds or the room could look too cold with 3 white walls.

Being a bit pedantic...but if a white rug is impractical surely white walls are too? I'm just saying this from having had white walls in the bathroom for the last year which i still haven't got round to painting their final colour. Grubby mitt marks (mine probably!) appear in places now.

Personally i'd go for something like Dulux Ivory (used in our spare room) or Natural Hessian (the final colour bathroom will eventually be) or other subtle beige/natural colours rather than white. Would still go with your plum colour on the feature wall but give the room less of a cold clinical white feel.

Incidentally Doozergirl suggested a colour for my lounge that was really nice deep colour that may be suitable for the feature wall..name eludes me right now (and really bugging me!)..i think she used it in her bedroom though. I do remember it came with a price tag though!

I'd replace the blinds with some heavy lined curtains ..just makes it cosier, bit more girly too i suppose, and would deaden sound ..especially with echoey laminate.

Got it! Kevin McCloud's Carragheen from fired earth was the colour i'm talking about link . Some really nice colours with plenty of pigment in them. Maybe Doozergirl will post you a piccy!

    Hi thanks for the replies

Have checked out dunelm mill thanks.

I am sticking with white walls because we have gradually changed the whole house from magnolia to white but started with an off white from B&Q and although it is a slightly warmer colour than white it is such a minimal difference tbh that i dont think the extra money is worth it. Her room gets the sun every morning which always makes it noce and bright..in the evenings it will be dark anyway and she very rarely uses it at the mo but will when she is older.

I love the white wood venetian blinds (she previously had beech ones) but am worrying it will be too white but think the floor takes away from the whole white effect..plus there are lots of accesories to brighten it up and just checked her patch of paint on her wall and it looks like its going to be quite dark..plus when the blinds are shut it will be dark again and open not a prob..ahhh wish i was good at photoshop!!

I also find the white easier to clean with one of those magic sponges..the house is so much easier than it used to be magnolia strangely as just go round with this sponge!

So blinds..help! ill deal with the rug another day!

Thanksfor your opinions and help x

Hi it's like a sponge! but it comes in a long block and you can cut to size..it has some sort of stuff in it so when you wet it it takes marks off i guess possibly leaving something on the wall as such or some sort of cleaner in it like cif cream etc.
It is so good and as opposed to when i cleaned the magnolia with a cloth etc and it took the paint off this doesn't..so easy to just wipe across the wall with it and the marks just dissapear! Have to say it makes me cringe at times as not a great texture against a wall eek!

It is a JML one but a friend gave it to me..i think you can get them in £stretcher or places like the £1 shop..but ill ask him if you are stuck. x
