Polish Student looking for University place. Please help

Options
This is not for me but for a friend.

I have a Polish friend who has a BA in Polish Literature which they studied for in Poland.

They have worked in England for a year and recently went back home to Poland.

My friend is now interested in coming back to England to study (in Nottingham)

Subjects they are interested in are Psychology, Marketing and English.

I left school at 16 and have no experience of these things so could anyone guide me on where to start looking.

many thanks

eggman

  • Hi eggman

I'd say the best place to start looking would be the UCAS (Universities and College Admissions) website which pretty much tells prospective students everything they need to know and provides information about all available courses and institutions. Here's the link http://www.ucas.ac.uk

    Hope this is helpful.

I would suggest that your friend considers doing postgraduate study which will continue the work he did in Poland on Polish literature. The reason I say that is that the UK has recognised that there are not enough people studying Polish literature and culture (and the literature and cultures of other eastern european countries). For this reason the Arts and Humanities Research Council (see https://www.ahrc.ac.uk) has allocated money to the study of these areas. It is called 'ring fenced funding' and this means that there is more money available for people who want to do PhDs in those areas than in others.
    I hope this helps.

Universities in Nottingham are University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University.

There websites should be good places to start:

    www.nottingham.ac.uk
    www.ntu.ac.uk

UCAS is only for undergraduate study, and the individual websites might be a better place to start if they are after masters/doctoral level study.

He will study 'for free' IF he gets a full scholarship, otherwise he will have to pay £3000 a year too.

    Many thanks for your help.

As I mentioned my friend worked in England for a year and saved £3200 for her studying so she is not after a freebie and is quite willing to pay her way.
