Why can't I take my glasses case on an American airlines flight, what could I possibly do with it?

There are many reasons why not I'm sure. perhaps even the arguement better safe than sorry.
I think if I was travelling by plane in the near future I would just put up with whatever the airlines or the government feel necessary, because if it goes tits up I sure as hell won't be around to complain they didn't afterwards.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
do they allow the clear hard plastic cases or are they all a no no, btw i am not flying (never have) just wondered0

I am wondering...
You can't take your lipstick with you but you can go on the plane with a load of cosmetics from the duty free shops?
Makes no sense to me.'They can tak' oour lives but they cannae tak' oour troousers!'The Nac Mac Feegle0 -
Was going to wear them, but also take my prescription sunglasses. I'm just too clumsy will probably sit on them, if the case wasn't there  ....prob just stick them in the case, like you said it ain't worth the hastle.0

The logic is that all staff and items you can pickup / buy airside (i.e. departure lounges, duty free) are security cleared.Hug provider for depression thread :grouphug:

You can't take them because the temporary rules say you can't. Why do the rules say you can't?.... because the security services have some intelligence that just may allow a terrorist to disguise a detonator or part of explosive in such an item, to employ staff to check every singlre item carried by every sigle passenger would price air travel out of the market.
Air travel is a terrorist target and the fact that we may have prevented another 9/11 (or worse) is a credit to the intelligence services. I would rather accept the inconvenience and feel safe than spend time arguing (and delaying thousands of fellow traverlers) that my case is safe to carry.
Air travel is a luxury and a huge benefit for those that wish to participate in it. If you need some rules to participate (which sometimes are quite strict) then that is part of the fee for receiving the benefits.0 -
however the recent guidance doesn't seem to prohibit glasses cases...this seems to be an AA thing. as you're flying with them how about bubble wrap?0

One of my colleagues went away this weekend and when asking at duty free if it was ok to buy things, they were told it was at the airline's discretion whether or not they let you bring the items on board... :rolleyes:0 -
Oh yeah - and they only went to Ireland for the weekend....0
