I have a laptop which seems to be giving me electric static shocks when I touch the metallic connectors on the side (eg. HDMI connector, iPort? etcetera)
What could be the problem causing this?

Its usually an Earthing problem with the laptop, i wouldnt worry, but it can sometimes short out USB/PS2 ports, it could potentially be a more serious problem such as voltage from the PS2/VGA/USB ports contacting on the metal. Here today, hospital tomorrow

Technical point, if it keeps coming back - ie shocks twice if you touch it twice in quick sucession - then it's not a static shock but a current one. I'd get the laptop off immediately, if the insides are shorting out, there's no knowing how much damage it might cause!Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

It can happen in quick succession but not always... Also occurs when I press the volume button which doesn't have any metal bits... Will try and get it checked by the manufacturer then as it is still within warranty!0
