Is it a bag of shop bought stuff?
If it is, then I'm guessing the bag has been left open, and probably too wet with a little light getting to it, good growing conditions for moss.

If its not that, then I haven't got a clue, sorry.

How long has it been green? If not very long then yes, remove it and it will be fine. otherwise, the compost might have been soured and won't be good for plants.

If it's on your pots where you've been watering plants then stop watering them so much. :)

it was the compost, i have removed it and repotted my beans as they needed it anyway, thanks you for your help :)

this is my 1st year growing things so its good to be learning!
  • Break it up and mix it in.

The surface of one of the pots I've got in my greenhouse is looking a bit green. I assume it's just been too damp and not enough air. It was sealed in a plastic bag to aid seed germination.

  • Leave it if there's seedlings come through otherwise gently raking it away (a finger will do!) will work.

You might find that it disappears from the soil around your veggie etc once the weather warms up and the plants are in bright sunlight. Moss tends to grow in damp shaded places (although the exception that proves the rule is my lawn !!!)
