Anyone Happy with Paypal - I am

I sell approx 150 items a week, about 130 pay using paypal, hardly ever any hassle. I have had an average of one chargeback every two months, I can live with that.
Those that pay with cheques and Postal Orders come in two extremes, half send all the details necessary to process orders but the other half are muppets, sending Postal Orders with nothing, no name address, nothing.
I am so happy with Paypal I may insist on Paypal only in the run up to Xmas.
Reading this forum all you read is complaints about Paypal, what about the 99.99% of us that are very happy.

I too have never had any problems with PayPal and I do agree there is nothing worse than the PO arriving with no clue to who its from, at least cheques have a name on them.

Bleugh will be along in a mo to keep us vigilant though... :)

Just out of interest, what's the average value of each item you sell?

I doubt you would be happy with chargebacks when your losing £50+ a time? I find sellers selling smaller value items are all happy as they don't in general get people scamming them, because of the lower value. But if you sell higher value stuff, your profit can be wiped out in one lost good.

3 chargebacks and 2 succesful claims have lost me £600 with paypal.

Someone selling £5 stuff, would have lost them £25

I think, and I'm only guessing, this is where the problem lies, people are far more likely to scam you for higher value items. I sell mostly computer monitors and computers and shudder everytime I get the paypal payment!

Don't offer it at all for any auctions, but ask the buyer to get in contact if they prefer to pay by paypal, so far, haven't had a problem with any of those they have contacted me and I have said ok to. Have said no to a far few though. Sometimes get abuse back, but to be fair, those are the ones I'm trying to stop paying me via paypal!

So don;t advertise it, but if I say yes to them, set up a request after.
  • I too quite often sell higher value goods. If I get a paypal payment and the address is unverified I refund the payment stating that I would not be covered by paypal in the event if any problems. People sometimes get confused about their paypal acount being verified and their address being confirmed. I have once never had a problem refunding people when I explain this to them. In most cases they get their address confirmed then resubmit the payment. I never accept paypal from outside the UK.
I have never had a chargeback. A couple of disputes but these have been sorted the same day they were opened. The only dispute I have had is when I was the buyer and not the seller and again this was sorted quite quickly.
I do believe that there are people out there who set out to try and scam from the outset.

Could be a problem if you have ticked the I accept paypal box when listing an item on Ebay and the buyer pays by Paypal. AFAIK if you tick this box, then you have to accept the Paypal payment even if the address is not verified. There used to be a page on Ebay explainig this but I can't find it anymore. Perhaps this has changed? Perhaps Soolin knows?

I give buyers a chance to get verified, but there's no way I'm sending out the £100+ item I currently have on auction if there's an unverified address.

Please, let the Italian or French bidder win and let them pay with a bank transfer :)
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

Who does, but that is the cost of convenience and speed.

You should build the Paypal fees and the Ebay fees into your selling price, that way its the customer that pays these fees, you do not.
  • Too much cost in my opinion for the sake of a two day bank transfer which is cleared funds and costs nothing. How sellers can actually want to use Paypal mystifys me but each to their own.
