Stocks & Shares ISA

Got an old S&S ISA from 2002 (Artemis Capital Fund), which has been up and (mostly) down like the proverbial bride's nightie (apart from in 2007 when it very briefly was looking like it might live up to the promise of outperforming a standard Cash ISA).

Cut a long story short, the small amount (2K) was invested on behalf of my niece and it has always been my intention to make up the shortfall if it didn't do as well as the "safe" option. It's still about £400 short of my estimate of £2.8K and been rising recently, but has been as low as £1100 in the past and I really don't want to have to make up as much as that.

Q: should I bale now or hang on a bit longer?

I know it's a "how long is a piece of string" Q. but I haven't a clue how the markets work - can't even understand why it's performing better at the moment when the global economy suggests it should be virtually wiped out by now _pale_.

Any advice/unfounded optimism welcome
