Should I claim on my house insurance?

My ex-OH did some electrical work in our dining room, the result of which is that I have damp up the walls now which has damaged the laminate flooring. As it was his handywork is there any point in me trying to make an insurance claim as he wont be putting it right.

Thanks

Would be worth checking your policy document to see if it's covered. If it has been a gradual thing (i.e. the damp has taken a while) then you probably won't be covered. Plus you need to weigh up the cost of repairing it yourself versus paying the excess and losing possible no claims discounts.
  • Usually you have the option to pay extra on your contents insurance to include 'Accidental Damage' (which covers DIY mishaps).
