Is my laptop dead?

Options
Hi,I have a Fujitsu-Siemens laptop, I picked it up to use and it was completely "dead".It doesn't switch on, so I though, whoa, really flat battery. Plugged charger in and left for a few hours but still nothing. No lights showing charger working, nothing. Seems to have no power whatsoever. Tried using another charger from diff laptop that fits-same result. .... any ideas you techie marvels??Worst case scenario? Repair costs??

If the charging icon is not showing on the laptop, its either a duff laptop itself or the charger isnt working. Now you said you tried a charger from a diff laptop, this was a bad idea as it could have diff voltage/amp rating which could have caused more harm than good to the laptop. Best thing to do would be to purchess another charger (you can get universal laptop chargers for around £20) and test it that way, if still no joy it looks like a dead laptop :(

Oh dear not really correct there. A) the laptop is dead, no Windows therefore no icon.
B)Amp rating will not harm the laptop. C)Why buy yet another PSU, ask someone to test the output for you. D) You can buy a digital tester from £3. E)Sounds like the DC input socket is loose.

Are there any lights on the actual charger? If not, try changing the fuse in the plug - could be that it's blown. A different charger might not work anyway - they're usually different.

Also try removing the battery for a few minutes, it might not be connected properly.

Also worth checking the socket like totalsolutions has said.

Some laptops can be powered on without the battery being connected, you could try taking your out and then connecting the charger to see if that helps. I also have an old Acer laptop that wouldn't charge, but it was sporadic, so if I moved the connector head a little or pushed it in a bit harder or shook the laptop a bit then it would sometimes light up and begin to charge, so you could try fiddling around with different positions and see if it lights up.

Thanks for all the suggestions, had already tried taking battery out for a few mins then replacing-still no lights/power on. The charger does not have a light so diff to tell if thats working, but husband is pretty handy at DIY and has all sorts of multi meter type stuff so will ask him to fiddle with charger and see if its alive..
