hi everyone
i'm thinking of mounting my 46" sharp LCD on the wall above my fireplace.
What do i need to consider?
I thought this would be better as at the moment the tv is in the corner & u walk in the room & its the first thing you see, on the wall it would be out of the way etc
Can i see photos of others set ups?
My room isnt massive, 3.5m wide by 5m long & we have 2 sofas, how have others over come the issues of positioning?
the tv would be infront of the 3 seater sofa. was thinking about a swivel mount so the tv can be adjusted if we have friends over for a movie?
can anyone recomend a mount? we've got plasterboard walls so i'd have to find the supports etc

https://www.sanus.com is where I purchased my wall mount.
Consider: Cost. Weight of TV. Wall strength. Hidden cables. Cables for Ethernet several two or three, Phone, Power, Games machines (PS3, WII, Computer), Sky TV, Aerial, Free View and terrestrial/digital. External Sound source.
Oh the stud locator tool. Plaster boards is a no-no.0 -

Fairly sure a 46" telly will be the first thing you see wherever you put it!
Isn't that a bit big for that size of room? My living room is about 8m x 5m and I wouldn't go above 40" else it hurts your eyes.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

We just mounted our 50" on the wall abopve the fireplace. Makes the room feel huge. The bracke we bought was £29 from ebay.
Item 250540588474 was the one we got and it came the next day and the guy was really helpful.
Just need to make surte the back of the tv is VESA!0 -
bear in mind when you mount the tv it isnt too high
most places i have been with it wall mounted its best viewed standing up0 -
The stand I bought tilts up/down by 15 degrees.0

- forget swivel unless you are on drug dealer money
- position is wherever you like it
- £25 quid will do up to 60" with 5" left & right horizontal movement [ 10" total ] plus the usual tilt !
Check for, and if necessary [ borrow a stud finder ] reinforce studs
Check for the correct VESA size for your tele model / brand
I've used these without any problems, they take a week to come from south of Ireland, but reliable !
Modern versions of flat screens have a good viewing angle
99% of the tele's lifetime it's just you and your family
Enjoy your new tele positionDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Expect a permanent stiff neck if you mount it above the fireplace.;)0

I mounted my 42" plasma on the wall a few months ago using a tilting bracket from https://www.vivomounts.com who I thought were VERY well priced compared to a lot of other places. Delivery was quick and the bracket is very sturdy. The plasma is about 6 years old so it's a heavy heavy piece of kit. I have it mounted in an awkward corner of my games room where there's only one available stud behind the plasterboard. I've got it mounted on the stud at one side and direct into the plasterboard at the other and it's rock solid. If you have very secure fixings at one side then I would happily mount it into the plasterboard at the other.
If you're going for a swivel/tilt/pull-out-from-the-wall-and-spin-like-dj-decks type bracket then I'd steer well clear on plasterboard in this case. The extra leverage you're putting on the bracket and hence the wall is just asking for trouble in this case.0
