Lloyds TSB Basic account

Options
I wonder if anyone can help. I have a basic bank account with Lloyds TSB and have a visa debit card with the account. Because it's only a basic account i can only use the card to withdraw cash from Lloyds own cash machines and can't use any other banks machines. (This really bugs me)

Anyway I have to go to overseas soon. I have my cash on a pre paid visa card for spending on the trip. Howver might need to draw cash out with the Lloyds TSB card. Can I use this card abroad? I rang up Lloyds and they said that i can use the card anywhere overseas really.

Just not convinced if I am restricted to which cash machines I can use in the UK, but can use any machine overseas. Doesn't make sense to me.

Anybody used this debit card abroad who might confirm.
Thanks!

It does indeed sound a bit strange. I would make some kind of alternative provision or maybe try and get upgraded to an account with more facilities. Good luck.

yes sounds strange to me too. I am sure the lady i spoke to didn;t understand that I had a basic account, even though i did tell her this. I don;t think they will let me upgrade due to credit rating even though I have had this basic account for 5 years with salary paid in etc

You could always try another bank.

There may have been some confusion about how you wanted to use the card abroad.

The welcome pack for the account that is online is clear

    - you CAN use the card to pay for things at home and abroad
    - you CANNOT use non-Lloyds TSB cash machines, whether they are in the UK or not.

I suggest you open another account similar to the LTSB basic account. Here's a list of them: http://www.moneymadeclear.fsa.gov.uk/pdfs/bank_accounts_table.pdf

All of them allow cash withdrawals from any UK cash machine.

Or open a LTSB Easy Saver account? You get a cashcard that works with ANY cashpoint.

Why they restrict the basic account is beyond me...
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂
