Party wall rules?

We're building an extension in the future and are going to inform neighbour in the next couple of days. Do we need to get him to sign anything if he's okay with us accessing his garden for our work?

thanks

Nice to let them know in advance, makes them feel important. If they are ok then it shouldnt involve signing anything, in fact it could have the opposite effect, like what are they going to do if they want me to sign. Most good neighbours are understanding and will oblige, they will have a chance to object the extension when they are notified anyway.. I would tell them, get a bit of a verbal ok and promise when the mess is over you will treat them to a slap up meal for any inconvenience

Just what we thought. Didn't know how formal these things are supposed to be.

Meal out at the end is a great idea, especially as we've only lived here 7 weeks and we only know their names!

You may need to comply with party wall legislation; depends how near the boundary you go.

Certainly he doesn't have to let you access his garden so go carefully.
