Roxio vs Nero CD-Burning Software

Options
1. Which of these is better Roxio or Nero?
2. Are there any conflicts between the Roxio and Nero software? Can both be used to write to the same CD-R without errors and problems?

Can anyone assist?

    BazzaD,

I use both Roxio and Nero and both are great for different things. At work a lot of CD images get emailed from one department to another, and the image is made in Roxio, hence the need for it.

I mainly use Nero for compiling Music CDs, VCDs and making backup copies of all my CD-Roms at home, while Roxio will do this as well I find Nero much more user friendly.

As for your own questions, you can only write to a CD-R once, if you are using a CD-RW and want to write and then re-write data you should be able to use either or both pieces of software and not have a problem.

The only conflict that I have come across is that a Roxio CD Image cannot be burnt using Nero and vice versa.

I hope this all makes sense.

    cheers

Not quite true. Depending on the type of disc you're creating, you can keep adding to a CD-R until it's full. Obviously you can't re-use the same sectors of the disc.

There's also such a thing as a UDF, or packet CD, formatted disc which is a way of making a CD behave a bit like a giant floppy disc. I did have trouble with discs formatted in this way by an old version of Roxio (formerly Adaptec) when I changed to Nero.

Unless things have improved, I'd say using both for the same CD may be asking for trouble.

Really? Are you using some Roxio or Nero-specific format? I'd have thought both would be able to use .iso disc images.

For what it's worth, I've always found Nero to be more reliable, and tolerant other tasks on the PC, while writing a CD. I haven't used a recent version of Roxio though.

    @ Welliesorter,

You are quite correct - I forgot you can have a multisession CD-R in which case you could use either piece of software.

As for the disk images, Roxio seems to create its own version of an iso file that Nero cannot recognise. Nero however does recognise 'regular' iso images.

    cheers
