Orange phone help -

Hoping someone can help me i'm trying to help a friend with an old orange contract.
they have put a default on her credit file and she has written asking for copy statements and proof of the debt.
then wrote asking for a copy of the default never received.
they have replied basically saying that the contract is not a CCA therefore not obliged to send a default notice.
what can she do now? she is unsure the debt is hers and its from 2006
any help appreciated as always

Did she have an Orange phone? 4 years ago isn't THAT long... I'm sure she should be able to recall if she had an Orange contract? Or did she have one but cancelled and as far as she's concerned it was paid up etc?
I'd start with asking them to prove the debt... Send the "I dispute this debt" letter if she believes it's wrong - tell them why she believes it's wrong and that they need to prove the debt to her. There should be a general template about here somewhere

she sent a prove it letter and this is the response we got back saying they do not need to send a default notice to her and that the phone agreement is not a regulated agreement under the consumer credit act so they don't need to retain a copy.
she knows she had an account with them but believes it was terminated and has never had anything from them since.
then she checked her credit file and found the default with an outstanding amount of £5000
