Barclays contactless machine

Hmm ive been away for the weekend and get home to this gadget that dh has been sent in the post. Due to account fraud he was issued a new card etc and this had come with it. My sister says she was sent one with her Natwest card but has never taken it out of the box (i never got one)!..thing is he is asleep and we need to get online to do something and im not sure what to do with it as the piece of paper with it is ripped and dont really iunderstand it online. The log in page says do you have one..if i say no we can log in as normal but will they know we have one and will it cause probs? can we just ignore it? if i say no can we hnage it if need be?!

I hate these types of things tbh and seeing as i deal with all the money and accounts etc it just looks like something else to lose in our house and cause stress!

SO do you have to use it..do you only use it at home or take it out wiht you? not really sure of the point of it tbh.

Thanks and sorry for sounding daft as not particularly old but find as soon as i get the grasp of one hing another pops up!

If it's the same as the Natwest one then you can log in without it and perform some transactions. For other transactions (some types of payment) you need it.

You don't need to carry it about with you unless you plan to do online transactions on someone else's computer

Technically you are committing online fraud if you use his account details to go online - but let's not get into that argument.

It's optional to use the machine to log in. If you don't use it, transactions between Barclays accounts are allowed. If you transfer money from Barclays to non-Barclays account, the machine i needed.

I've got the instructions for my pinsentry here (only got it a few weeks ago) - that ripped bit of paper. Excuse dodgy typos but the instruction part is (I'm not re-typing the waffly bit!):

Go to https://www.barclays.co.uk/login and enter your online banking membership number
Enter the last few digits of the card number on any of your barclays debit cards as indicated into the box on screen
Insert this card into the card reader
Press the Identify button on the card reader
When the enter pin appears on the card reader screen, enter your pin for this card into the card reader, then press the etner button ont he card reader
Type the eight digit code shown on the card reader into the boxes on screen and click login button.

There are FAQs on the back and the usual "woo hoo this is wonderful" introductory paragraph - but they're the instructions that come on the little bit of paper that comes with them (with added bad typing).
