Splitting Sage up?
Hi,
Does anyone know if a sage can be split up and how? My sage plant is Huge! I bought it as a wilting thing from wilko and its gone rather mad
I'm going to move it to the new herb bed and would like a few of them dotted about. Am I better to take some cuttings from it instead of trying to split it up? Any help is most appreciated.
Thank you in advance

You should be able to lift it and divide it into smaller plants. Water it well first and keep it watered in it's new situation whilst putting down some new roots.0

It all depends on just how big it is and how old. If it is young ie 1 to 2 yrs then split it gently if it is an old sturdy warrior it will stand a more ruthless chopping up and appreciate being replanted in a lovely warm, new softly composted bed that will make it feel lurved up in it's old age. Before you know it it will be be living in the viagra of sageness and throwing up tons of baby sage shoots. Well at least that's what has happened with my elderly sage, here in Scotland. Hope this helps."To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill" Sun Tzu0
