Hi,

Trying to get a part P (sparks uncontactable after doing the work and gfriend discovered she needed Part P!) so had an inspection done and what follows is the problems identified and quoted to fix for £1000 + Vat. Recommended dual RCD consumer unit. House is a Victorian 2 bed terrace, with electrics pretty modern (ie. 10yr old C Unit)

1. Out building fed from kitchen sockets circuit, circuit overloaded, remove c\u in out building (out building is outside toilet attached to kitchen)

2. Circuit 7 not identified on board

3. Cables in corner of cellar through crimped and left exsposed

4. Spur for intruder alarm not identified

5. 6 Bathroom spots not fire rated,4 spot lights on landing, connected in roof space with choc block connectors

6. No equipotential bond to gas

7. Main earth undersized

General condition good
requires some improvements to bring it inline with regs

Remove mcbs from out building and incorporate sockets into kitchen ring
Replace spots with fire rated spots and connectors

Cable sticking out of corner of out building
Cables sticking out of wall in kitchen
No warning labels or test stickers
No equipotential bond to Gas

    Who did the inspection?

Does the existing CCU (Consumer Unit) have an RCD? What reasons were identified which required a new CCU?

    What is overloading the circuit?
So are you saying that the CCU for the house is in the outbuilding?

Where is the Gas meter in relation to the CCU?

This is dependent upon the main cut-out fuse...Do you know what the main supply fuse rating is. (It should be identified on your PIR.) Also, what is the current size of the main earth, and what are the earthing arrangements of the supply. (I.e. TNCS(PME), TNS, TT)

On the report, was the property given a 'Satisfactory' or 'Unsatisfactory'

I am a bit confused on the above...are you saying that there is a small consumer unit with MCBs in the outbuilding, which is the overloaded circuit? Can you please clarify.

Or you can just add fire-hoods to the spots.

    Ok

Additionally, All items highlighted in the report should have been given a code 1 to 4...do you have this detail

Yooj, it's a CU - Consumer Unit, not a CCU. Small thing I know, but as a sparky it's irritating me, sorry.

I think you'll find it is a Consumer Control Unit, just shortened to Consumer Unit

It's a consumer unit , a CCU is a COOKER CONTROL UNIT (usually meaning a cooker switch with an integrated socket)

I suggest you check the regs then.

Though this is not really answering the OPs question is it.

"Consumer Unit also known as a Consumer Control Unit" Reference - Part 2 Definitions in the Big Red Book...I prefer that, than the Ultimate Handyman...

As to saying that whether CCU is not refered to as a Consumer Unit...maybe you should go and search for posts relating to CCU on the IET website and see how many responses you get back regarding Cooker Control Units.

Though like I said, this is not really progressing the OPs question is it.
