NatWest Advantage Gold Account Questions.

I have a Natwest Advantage Gold account and am charged £12.95 per month and have never used their services at all.

First, I do not understand their "travel insurance" offer at all. Do you get (some kind of) free travel insurance or what?

Second, if I decide to cancel (by letter) will there be any repercussions regarding my account. I have an overdraft (which I do not use). What will the account be downgraded to?

Thanks.

I downgraded my Ad gold as I made a claim under the tracel insurance and they wouldnt pay out, it only seems to be a very basic cover, you dont need to tell them your going away just need to phone if your making a claim and they send a form out, I wrote to downgrade my account and they just put it to a normal non fee current account, they kept my overdarft at the same amount, just i lose the like extra ! or 2% discount on the APR that you get with the ad gold,

My friend has a Natwest account with all the trimmings and he too found the travel insurance to be totally inadequate. As a general rule packaged accounts are not worth what you pay for them As always the devil is in the detail. Banks are very good at making these accounts sound like they are excellent value but the bottom line is that the benefits are good value, for a few people they might well be but not for the majority.

To be fair HSBC recently went above and beyond the call of duty with the Iceland volcano incident, although in theory their travel insurance does not cover such things as a good will gesture they will allow people to claim on this ocassion. My friend said that he wished that he had never left HSBC and will be going back very soon.
