Hi I am new to ebay and have purchased an item costing £100 (a lot to me) from a seller who had 100% positive feedback at the time although he only had 4 items sold/bought. The item location was Ireland although the seller was in the Netherlands. Since the purchase (only at the weekend) he has received a negative feedback and a feedback that stated that the person never received an item but got a refund. His score went to 83%. Now he is appearing as a non registered user. I have tried contacting him to see when I can expect the product but no answer so far. How long should I wait to receive the item? Would I be protected by paypal if it does not arrive? Should I worry?

How long have you waited? I would file an item not received dispute with paypal asap.
What kind of item was it? The dual location is a bit of a worry, honestly. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
I have only waited since the weekend so not long at all, I wouldn't have expected it yet anyway. It is a home appliance. I don't want to register a dispute until necessary,I was going to give him a couple of weeks to send it to me, do you think that is a good idea?. How much time do I have to register a dispute and how do you go about it anyway, if I have to? Thanks for all advice given.Penny xxx

I think you have 45 days to file a dispute. Depending on why he has been NARUd, speed could be of the essence, as you won't have buyer protection on your purchase. (He doesn't qualify)
PM me the item number if you'd like me to take a closer look at your seller. My TV is broken!

You could make contact with the buyer who left a neg, to try to find out what happened there?
Did the seller GIVE him a refund, or did paypal? My TV is broken!

Thanks for your help, I am going to contact the person who left the neg feedback and ask their opinion and see where they got the refund from. That is a great idea.Penny xxx

Do not wait to get the item, put in a protective paypal chargeback as soon as you are able as there is a possibility that the seller, if a scammer, will be withdrawing their funds from paypal as we speak.
If you paid by credit card though you can always fall back on that should the paypal refund not come through.
Personally I would not have risked £100 from a seller with so little feedback, the dual location would have just been the final straw.

I have put in a paypal claim, do I need to do anything else with ebay? is there a claim procedure there as well that I need to do? It looks like the guy was a scammer, I don't know if I am protected at all. The paypal dispute claim is waiting for a response from the seller.Penny xxx

The paypal claim is the important thing. If that fails, with luck your credit card company will be able to help. Good luck, keep us posted. My TV is broken!

sorry to hear your first experience of e-bay is a bad one
.youve done all you can really by starting the paypal dispute.
as the seller is now narud and will probably ignore paypals e-mails they will find in your favour but as soolin said he will have emptied his paypal account so your last resort may well be your card company.
dont let this experience put you off e-bay for good as it can be great as long as your extra carefull and check things out thoroughly(this does come with experience though).
if you see something you fancy and want it checking out just send the item number to someone on here and they can double check its ok for you.
