Did your employer inform you in writing of this temporary lay-off?
How long have you worked for this employer?
Do you have a contract of employment?

Does your contract of employment have a clause about lay-offs?
Are you being paid while you are laid off?

Worth reading that link to the booklet above.

I think there might possibly be a bit of pay you still have to be given during a lay-off (?possibly by the Government - rather than the employer?). Also - I believe that if someone has been laid off for more than 4 weeks then they are entitled to ask the employer to make them redundant? (not sure how worth it it would be in your case - as I don't think people get the legal right to statutory redundancy pay under 2 years service??).

So - bear in mind the comments I've made - and check out the booklet to see if this is the case.
