Hi There,
So booked a package holiday trip to Canaries in August with Thomson. With the recent Volcano situation does anyone know if I can buy insurance which will refund the cost of my holiday should we be forced to cancel the holiday?
Or any other advice - this holiday is going to cost £3k so I don't want to loose that obviously! it has to be paid by July.

No-one will insure against it now. You needed to have insurance in place prior to 15/4/10 to be covered.
But as it's a package, the tour operator will look after you if the flight gets cancelled.0 -
If it's a proper package holiday then Thompsons will refund you if they cancel it. Note THEY cancel it - not you.
You will not be able to buy travel insurance to cover the present volcanic eruption as it's a preexisting factor.
You may be able to buy insurance that will cover a fresh eruption from another volcano. It may be too early for the market to have responded to this yet - they will be too busy paying or rejecting claims....0 -
Thomson says they will not refund under 'exceptional circumstances' and under that section is says 'natural disaster'.
Holiday is in august - hmmmmmm what to do what to do!0 -
Were Thomsons to cancel holidays and keep the money paid they would never get another customer!0

They may cancel and reschedule you. I was in florida with my family when the volcano kicked off and I thought I was covered as had what I thought was a comprehensve policy from the bank.. However I now realise that cancellation is not covered under the bank policy and would only pay out for delay. Luckily our flight home was delayed and not cancelled as the volcano errupted in the first few days in florida. However my mum has booked for us 'girls' to go to NY for my birthday in June but now there is no chane of getting a better policy to cover us. She was keeping it as a surprise but had to tell me when we got home as I needed to book the time off work.
ALSO my company has forced anyone who has had 'ash issues' and could not get to work to take the time as holiday or as unpaid. Not to bad for me as only one day of work missed but another colleague was stick in India and was due to fly back on day 2 of closed airspace and has been forced to take his as unpaid unless he makes up the hours so bless him he his cuurently working lunches and late to try and make up days.November : VodkatThank you posters :money:0 -
I was recently stuck abroad and they did nothing. Cost me £££ to get back!!! So I know what its like. Didn't feel like a holiday so hence booking another. However, I am worried after spending ££££££ on a holiday we won't get anything back if it come August and the volcano is still erupting. As I say, it says in the T & Cs that if they cancel you won't be covered under natural disasters.:mad::mad::mad::mad:
I know I may be panicing as its now only May and we go in August - but still!0 -
Hi, we've booked a family holiday to Mallorca in July. Flights, accommodation etc, all separate. Only booked insurance this week, but paid for flights on credit card. Any ideas what would happen if it is still erupting then?0

as you've only just booked the insurance none of that will cover it I imagine. If the airline will cover the delayed departure or return then that is what should cover you. the credit card should cover if any of them go bust before then.0
