Did you get a lucky heather at the same time?
That sounds a bit odd. Are they really coming through the tarmac, or are they germinating on top?
Any idea what the weeds are? Any chance of a pic?0 -

Boiling water, salt, glyphosphate, new drive.
Not necessarily in that order.
If weeds are coming through now, (could be seeds germinating in cracks though rather than weeds growing through) it is going to be a long battle. Just don't let a tree seedling take hold.0 -

And clothes pegs, to be sure!0 -
I thinks its time to call Brendan McTarmac and Bodge it and Scarper back0

Use glyphosate now and start saving up to have the drive redone. If weeds are coming through it won't be long before the surface starts to break up.0

Sadly sounds like you have had a bodge job done...do you have any warranty , receipt ,proof of who did it etc, small claims court time or save up for it doing properly. ...or time to call rogue traders!.
Weeds should not come through tarmac , it must have been layed too thin and not correctly prepared.
If it wasnt done like this is wasnt done right.... http://www.drivewayexpert.co.uk/laying-tarmac-job-done-well.html

think it was this company.
they were doing the road and asked us if we wanted to have drive done.
agreed , but obviously they didnt do a proper job.
what is glyphosate , where do i get it from and how do i use it?
will this get rid of the weeds or will i really have to have the drive redone?
will weedkiller get rid of them ?Nice to save.0 -
Glyphosate is the active ingredient in systemic weedkillers. Tumbleweed is a brandname but many Own Labels will do the same job.
Spray onto the weeds when they are in active growth (now is fine) and leave. Nothing will appear to happen for up to a couple of weeks perhaps but the chemical will be working it's way to the root. The weeds will then go yellow and die.
Don't spray on a breezy day or it will drift onto plants you want to keep.0 -
someone has suggested using bleach/domestos, which would work out a lot cheaper.
any ideas about this?Nice to save.0
