claiming back council tax

hi recently got my acounts back for last year from accountant and after all deductions etc i earned basically nothing but i paid full council tax last year can i claim it back in retrospect hope some one can help

if you put in a claim for council tax benefit you can ask to get it backdated 3 months

You cannot claim CT back. You can claim Council Tax Benefit, and request backdating for a limited period, but you have to have good reason for not having claimed earlier. As you would have had a fair idea at the time that your income was low, this would not be a sufficiently good reason not to have claimed earlier.

hi karen and dmg thanks for the fast replys the reason i never claimed before even though i was not earning much is my job pays daily some times i earn nothing other times i earn a lot in a day in fact it would be very easy to accidental commit fraud going by my council rules so i dont bother i just hoped now i could see how little i earned last year i just hoped i could get it all back at least now i know i cant. i won't have to talk to them which is i suppose makes it all worthwhile thanks again to u both
