Credit Score Trap and dodgey Mobile phone companies

i've recently applied for a mortgage but my credit score has been affected by a default (£26 for a mobile phone contract payment that I wasn't told about, it went to a debt collection agency and wham credit score is affected - they turned us down for the mortgage based on the score. Is there anything I can do?

Have you looked at your credit report and tried to dispute the £26? Sometimes this can help, especially if you weren't aware of owing it. Seems like such a tiny amount to reject a mortgage over really though, if everything else was ok? have a look at your report and see if there's anything else on there that might have been flagged as a no-go?

the report will show your credit card limit not the outstanding balance ......... if you have a card that you dont take near the limit ask them to reduce it

2 cards with £2000 limit will show as £4000 as this is what is available to you.

Also if you dont request for a credit card to be taken off your credit report they sometimes leave it "open" so it will show up as credit avaialble.

There may also be linked pepole on there, if there are and there is no link you will need to complete a disassociation form.
