For the last couple of days my laptop won't connect to the internet.
I have a pc that uses a wireless router., this is working fine.

When the laptop starts there is a message that says I have 1 programme running but I don't know what it is.

An icon at the bottom of the screen has a message that says
"Local Area Connection A network cable is unplugged"

Can anyone help?

I had to look at a friends laptop the other day doing the same thing, used System Restore to just before the last windows update and it's been fine since.

The windows update has been reinstalled and everything is ok again, may be worth a try, I think the update was about 10 days ago.

    System restore
Click start - programs - accessories - system tools - system restore
Click restore to earlier point in time, click OK

Also however, how do you connect to net. Wirelessly or through an Ethernet cable?

If it's saying it's unplugged you could have a faulty port, driver conflict amongst a couple of others.

    System restore didn't solve it.

My laptop connects to the net via my wireless router on the pc.

Ok so you're issue sounds more like wireless setup, does it connect if you use the cable when plugged into the router/laptop ?

Sorry if this sounds really stupid [ it happened to me] has the wireless switch on your laptop been switched off by mistake?

Yes, it connects with the ethernet cable plugged in.

What make is your laptop-wireless switches are in different places on different makes.

Are you on Vista, XP or 7 ?
