Laptop Cooling Tray

Heya everyone.
My laptop (HP G6000) gets quite hot (I do a lot of intensive tasks on it e.g. photoshop) and I was wondering if a laptop cooling tray would be a good idea? Can anyone vouch for them?
Because of the overheating, the fan kicks in and it's quite loud.
Can anyone recommend any cooling trays to me?
I usually either sit in bed with my laptop or on the futon so it's never in one place.
Thanks in advance.

If you have a defective nvidia graphics chip, there may be a bios update available to turn the fan on more frequently.
A flat surface is usually all you need, don't block the vents up with a quilt etc - but there is a known overheat issue with some nvidia graphics chips, which can eventually result in a dead laptop
There is also a battery recall on some G6000's

My Dell lappy used to get too hot (I'd have to put it down - shock horror - time not spent on MSE!), so I bought a £10 cooling tray off the local market.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

My daughter complained her laptop swiched off when she used it on the bed
It (duvet) was blocking the vents and cooling fans. Bought a cooling stand and hey presto problem has stopped. :T

I've got an Akasa cooling tray, works pretty well -I've got the widescreen version. it tilts the laptop at an angle -I dont mind this but still do find it better to use with an external keyboard and mouse. Runs off a USB port and then has a spare on the back so you dont lose any USB ports overall.

Worth looking at the location of the fans relative to the cooling vents on the base of your laptop as its obviously more effective if the line up somewhat.0 -

Wow! I didn't know that. I inherited this laptop from my OH. I'll have a check soon to see if the battery is on the recall list and shall check out the nvidia thing too.
Thanks.:)Tigsteroonie wrote: »My Dell lappy used to get too hot (I'd have to put it down - shock horror - time not spent on MSE!), so I bought a £10 cooling tray off the local market.
Has it helped enormously? Sometimes my laptop gets so hot that I almost burn myself if I touch the bottom of it.:eek:2019 Wins

Thanks for that. I'll check it out. I've been looking at a few cooling fans trying to work out where the fan on my lappy is and the fan on the trays.:o2019 Wins

I always use my laptop on one of those trays with the cushion attached to the bottom, which keeps the vents clear. I think it was only a couple of quid.0

I bought a cheap can of compressed air for less than a quid & cleaned out the vents. It dislodged a small lump of belly button fluff & that done the job..Not Again0

I've got an 'England' one which Tesco's were selling off after the last world cup. I've seen them in a few places though. Here's one in Matalan:-LadyMorticia wrote: »Do you remember where you got it from?
